Custom cabinetry starts where the catalogue ends. The doors sit inside the face frame instead of over it, the end panels are furniture, the hood is a piece of millwork, the pantry has a species the semi-custom line does not stock, and every dimension is whatever the drawing says. It costs more and takes longer — eight to fourteen weeks — because a shop is building your kitchen rather than picking it, and it is the right answer when the look you want cannot be had any other way.

Shiloh's nine constructions include ⅜-inch inset, flush inset, beaded inset and the modern flush and square-beaded insets, on a 1½-inch solid-wood face frame with a catalyzed conversion-varnish finish — in forty door styles, nine species and any Sherwin-Williams colour. The rift white oak arched kitchen, the Chatham Polar flush-inset kitchen, the Westfield reeded-island kitchen and the Hale Navy kitchen with Alicja Crosby Interiors are all Shiloh inset.

• Inset doors fitted inside the frame with even reveals all round — the furniture look.
• Any species and cut — rift white oak, walnut, cherry, hickory, quarter-sawn — and any stain or paint, matched to a sample.
• Dimensions without increments: a 13⅝-inch cabinet, a 27-inch-deep island, a 103-inch pantry.
• Millwork: hoods, mantels, furniture ends, turned legs, arched openings, integrated appliance panels drawn as one piece.
