Home bar cabinets in New Jersey — wet bars, beverage centres and bar walls

A bar is a small kitchen with better lighting: a counter, a sink or a beverage centre, glass or reeded-glass uppers with lighting inside, a darker or warmer colour than the kitchen. Eight of the homes on this site have one — a Sable-stained bar with a wine refrigerator, black-framed glass bar uppers, a walnut hutch with a beverage centre — and each page lists the line and the finishes.

What goes into a bar wall

  • Uppers with glass. Clear, reeded or seeded glass doors with LED strips inside — the black-framed glass bar uppers in Cranford, the Sable-stained bar with glass uppers and a wine refrigerator.
  • A beverage centre or wine refrigerator under the counter — 15 or 24 inches wide, panel-ready or stainless — the walnut hutch with a beverage centre.
  • A sink for a wet bar, or a coffee station for a dry one: the Timber coffee bar in Oradell with floating shelves.
  • A darker or warmer finish than the kitchen — stained, black, navy, green — so the bar reads as furniture.
  • Floating shelves and a slab or tile back for the bottles and glasses you want to see.

Where the bar goes

Off the dining room, at the end of a kitchen run, in a butler's pantry between the kitchen and the dining room, in a finished basement. The whole-home orders — Montclair, South Orange, the Mount Arlington lake house — had the bar drawn with the kitchen so the finishes relate and everything arrived together. The Livingston kitchen adds a bar and a pantry in the same Luna Dove and Timber.

Bars in every line

A bar is built from standard wall and base cabinets with glass doors, panels and open shelves, so it is possible at the stocked level; reeded glass, interior lighting, custom colours and furniture details come from the semi-custom lines. Bring a photo of the wall and its length and the designer draws it with the kitchen — or on its own.

Good to know

Questions we get

Can you build just a bar, without a kitchen?
Yes. Bars, pantries, mudrooms and bath vanities are quoted on their own; bring the wall length, the ceiling height and a photo.
Wet bar or dry bar?
A wet bar has a sink and needs a water line and a drain — easy next to a kitchen or above a basement bathroom, expensive across a slab. A dry bar with a beverage centre only needs an outlet.
What size is a beverage centre?
Most under-counter beverage and wine refrigerators are 15 or 24 inches wide and fit a standard base run; panel-ready models take the cabinet door.
Which colour for the bar?
Darker or warmer than the kitchen, usually: a stain, black, navy or green. The two-tone page lists the pairings, and the bar is the easiest place to use the colour you would not put on the whole kitchen.
Can the uppers have lighting inside?
Yes — LED strips inside glass-front uppers, on a dimmer, are standard in our bar walls.
How long does a bar take?
The cabinet lead time of the line — two weeks stocked, four to eight semi-custom — and a day or two to install.
