Natural wood and stained kitchen cabinets in New Jersey — oak, maple, walnut, hickory, cherry
Wood is back on the walls, not just the island: natural maple slab kitchens, walnut islands, Timber and Desert Oak in Fabuwood's stocked colours, nine species at Shiloh. Every stain and species below is on a sample door in the showroom; the kitchens are ones we have installed.
Species, then stain
A stain is only half the colour — the species underneath sets the grain, the warmth and how the stain takes. Maple is tight and even and takes light and natural stains cleanly (the natural maple slab kitchen). White oak is the straight, modern grain (its own page). Walnut is the dark, rich one — the Maplewood island in Shiloh's Rye stain. Hickory is the most varied, cherry darkens with age, alder takes a stain like cherry at a lower price, red oak is the traditional grain.

Wood on the walls, wood on the island
Whole-wood kitchens — Desert Oak with a fluted island, the rift white oak arched kitchen, the natural maple slab kitchen — work when the grain is calm and the stone is quiet. Wood as the second colour is the everyday version: a Timber island under Dove, a Sable-stained hood and bar under Soft White, stained bases under white slab uppers. Painted vs stained covers durability and touch-ups; the white oak guide covers the cuts.
