White oak kitchen cabinets in New Jersey — rift-cut, quarter-sawn and natural

White oak is the wood of the moment and the one we are asked about most: straight-grained rift-cut for a modern room, quarter-sawn with its ray fleck for a traditional one, plain-sawn for a warmer, livelier grain. Shiloh offers all three cuts in nine stains; St. Martin, Adornus and Eclipse add their own white-oak finishes. The kitchens below are white oak we have installed.

Three cuts, three looks

The same white oak log gives three different doors. Rift-cut has a straight, tight, quiet grain with almost no fleck — the arched kitchen on this site is rift white oak in Shiloh's Straw stain, and it reads as one calm material. Quarter-sawn shows the medullary ray as a shimmering fleck across the grain, the Craftsman look. Plain-sawn has the cathedral grain and the most movement, and takes a natural or light stain best in a rustic or transitional room. Our white oak guide compares them with photos.

White oak by line

  • Shiloh and Eclipse: white oak in plain, rift-cut and quarter-sawn cuts across forty door styles and nine standard stains, overlay or inset — the Chatham flush-inset kitchen pairs a rift oak island with Polar walls.
  • St. Martin: Sandstone Oak, Rift Cut White Oak, Dusk Gray Oak, Dark Brown Oak, Urban Oak and Onyx Oak stains on a built-to-order semi-custom box.
  • Adornus: White Oak on the Chelsea and Empire shakers in the stocked Essential line, and as a natural-stain option in Designer.
  • Oak looks in stock: Fabuwood Natural Oak and Desert Oak (the fluted Desert Oak kitchen), Forevermark Petit Oak and Homestead Oak, 21st Century Sierra — oak-grain finishes at Level I.

White oak as the second colour

Most of our white oak goes on the island or the uppers: a rift oak island under Polar inset in Chatham, a natural oak island under white shaker in Montclair and South Orange, oak slab accents in the matte white kitchen, oak uppers over black bases in the black-and-oak kitchen. White quartz with warm veining, brass or black hardware and a plaster or oak hood finish the room.

Questions we get

Which white oak kitchen cabinets are stocked?
The stocked ones are listed by level above — they ship in about two weeks, some in days. Semi-custom colours take four to eight weeks; custom eight to fourteen. Your designer confirms the week before you order.
Can I see white oak kitchen cabinets installed before I decide?
Yes — the kitchens on this page are real New Jersey homes we designed and installed, and the showrooms have full displays in several of these finishes. Bring rough measurements and a designer draws your kitchen in the finish in 3D, free.
Can I do the island in a different colour?
In every line. Two-tone orders — a painted perimeter with a stained or coloured island — are the norm in our portfolio; see the two-tone page.
What countertop goes with it?
Bring the sample door to the slab. Every countertop we sell is in full slabs on the floor, grouped by price level, so you hold the door against the stone before you commit; see countertops.
Do painted finishes chip?
Factory conversion-varnish and UV finishes are hard; hand touch-up kits come with every line. Painted vs stained covers wear and care.
How do I get a price?
Bring rough wall lengths and photos to any showroom. A designer draws the kitchen in 3D and prices it line by line — cabinets, counters, tile, installation — the same visit, free, with no obligation.
